Here's a postcard set I have of Western Maryland sites along US 40. Click each image

This is Beall HS in Frostburg, MD. An art deco bit in the middle of nowhere |
The Burnside Bridge at Antietam Battlfield |
The Masonic Temple and an Episcopal Church in Cumberland MD. These are still standing. |
Dan's Rock, south of Frostburg, this tower is long gone replaced by among other things,
the WFWM transmitter and some trashy old trailers |
The Barbara Fritchie House In Frederick, MD |
A city park in Hagerstown |
Hessian Barracks in Frederick |
The National Road Tollhouse in La Vale, west of Cumberland, MD. This still stands,
but not in such a pastoral setting, as US 40(alternate now) has developed into
a commercial strip. |
A "Potomac Panorama" somewhere east of Hancock, MD, I'm assuming. |
"The Narrows" west of Cumberland MD. The water in the snap is Wills Creek. The original
National Road bridge in the background still stands-the background bridge
is gone, replaced by a newer span, which would be out of this snap(to the east). The railway on the south side of the road is also gone. |
US 40 approaching South Mountain west of Hagerstown |
A "Peaceful Valley" and US 40. I have no clue where.... |
The US 522 bridge over the Potomac at Hancock MD. |
Washington's Headquarters in Cumberland, MD. This is a very tiny log cabin. |
