Sullivan
July 2k4 photos taken in Sullivan County and the Village of Hancock.
With a Sept 2k5 updadte.
The snaps come up in a new window.

The east end of NY 55A west of Napanoch in Ulster County.
The sign at east end of NY 55A.
Because it's all covered in vegetation like this,
it gets a seperate snap.
A truss bridge on NY 55 at the NY 55A JN.
This crosses the Rondout Creek,
which eventually flows to Kingston.
NY 55A has reference markers now-
A recent addition. Unlike NY 28A, though, these say “NYC”
and reflect mileage travelled.
They don't reset at the Ulster-Sullivan county line.
Looking down NY 55A.
Again looking down NY 55A,
This time in Sullivan County.
The west end of NY 55A in Sullivan County.
NY 55A in Sullivan County used to have all Sullivan County Signs.
Those are all gone now, excpt this one directional sign.
Sullivan County and NYSDOT equipment parked at the NY 55/NY 55A JN.
There wasn't any road works going on anywhere nearby.
You'll find this sign in various
incarnations at reserviors in Ulster, Sullivan and Delaware Counties.
If you cross over the line you can cop to a bit of aggro.
The reserviors have their own police, and with the 2k1 incident,
They are a lot more active.
A town sign. These vary from plain jane bits
to like what you see here,
where the town has a care for it's image.
Looking east at the NY 55-NY 55A JN.
Clicking the big snap gives you the bonus of the Junction signage.
Looking south along NY 42 at the Chestnut Creek Bridge in Grahamsville
You've seen this before-
The Northern “END” of NY 42.
Actually the northern end of the southern section.
Or is it?
Here is the reassurance signage at the Sullivan CH 19 junction-eastbound.
This is 2.3 miles west of the END of NY 42.
Reference markers also refer to NY 42 in this stretch.
Sullivan County 19 and 157 link to Ulster CH 47-that links to...NY 42 north.
A sine that bips at the Sullivan CH 19 JN.
Now Sullivan CH/NY Touring Route concurrencies are not rare,
But one this clearly marked is. Approximately a mile of NY 55 is also CH 17;
NYSDOT maintainence resumes past the hamlet of Neversink.
Then, it reverts to a county road again past the Neversink Reservior.
The former Site of Neversink-
the hamlet moved east when the Neversink Reservior was filled,
But, Old Neversink was sunk, when it wasn't supposed to....
Looking northeast along NY 55,
which crosses the top of the Neversink Reservior here.
Looking downstream in the Neversink River Valley from the Dam.
Looking southwest along NY 55 at the same vantage point.
Looking across the Neversink Reservior.
A Neversink Reservior sign.
Another look at the River valley.
Sullivan CH 105 is the road you see in the distance.
The old NY 17 overpass near JN 89 on NY 17.
This is at the Fishs Eddy junction in Delaware County.
Approaching JN 97 from the east on NY 17.
You can see signs of erm....civilzation :P
Gotta click to cop to this Hancock Sine Salad!
A variety of signs to be found around the Hancock JN(JN 97) on NY 17.
Looking west on Pennsylvania Ave at the Delaware River Bridge.
PA 191 is on the other side of the river.
As you can see, the bridge is being redecked.
There is a temporary pedestrian signal;
You don't have to walk in the roadway to cross this bridge,
so this really isn't needed.
If you push the button, you get 90 seconds to cross the bridge.
Both directions get a red light.
The completed project in Sept. 2k5.
We’re looking east.
On the completed bridge.
The South END of NY 268 in Hancock.
The same junction facing north on NY 97.
Sine Salad again! This is gone now.
Replacement sine salad for the above.
The only ones left from 2k4 are are at left.
Enlargement of the NY 17 and PA 191 blazers.
Not only are they new, they're all NYSDOT Region 9 work.
The snap gives enough detail so you can see the similarity in sheeting.
Also note the PA 191 sheild has no PENNDOT logo.
The NY 97 Delaware River bridge; facing north.
This bridge will soon be replaced.
The new NY 97 bridge under construction.
The top photo is the southern abutment;
the bottom is the northern abutment and pier.
A railway bridge in Hancock:
This parallels the NY 97 Bridges.
The new NY 97 Delaware River Bridge.
From the west, shot from a new mini-layby in Sept 2k5.
A shot from the center of NY 97 looking south at the bridge.
And a shot of the new bridge
from what's left of the northern approach to the old bridge.
The remains of the approach to the old truss bridge shown in the above photo.
As you can see all traces were removed of the old bridge.
Looking south on NY 97 south of Hancock.
One way to avoid hills is to build nice viaducts.
This was also done at Callicoon like this.
Now in Honesdale, PA; something that's just weird....
US 6 and PA 191 part ways in Honesdale PA.
There is a turn prohibition sign that lights when a railway crossing on PA 191 is in use.
Also you can see narsty Clearview signage. Ecch.
Looking south on US 6 south of Honesdale.
This is approaching the main Shopping district.
A temporary bridge on PA 191.
An ancient sine at the PA 191/PA 371 junction.
Bet this sine is older than a lot of the audience :)
Looking east on PA 371.
