The new NY 97 bridge. Now to get an idea of how the normal water level,
take a gander of this shot of mine from 2k5; shot at the same location as the long shot on this page. |
The normal riverbank is at that sapling at the right.
This can be seen at a different angle two snaps down. |
Looking west towards the bridge to Pennsylvania. |
Same location, looking north-it's easy to see where the riverbank would be. |
On the south sidewalk of the bridge to PA, facing west.
This snap shows how things look from the PA side. Note that you can’ normally see the river. |
Immediately across from the last shot-Showing how far the river has come over it’s banks. |
Looking at the Delaware River Bridge from a southeastern angle.
Note the debris in the water. |
Looking west on West Main Street in Hancock. |
Now this is a garage for submarines... |
This person used to have a riverfront lot. Gail did not see this as good planning. |
Not your best of luck here. These cars are parked in the owner’s driveway. |
This used to be someone’s back yard. |
| As was this. Gail said that the floodwaters receded quickly,
and left a minimum of damage to yards and such. |
| Looking south from NY 268 just east of Hancock. |
Another waterlogged yard. |
This puts the above shot in perspective-at left is the building;
and the fenceposts; and Gail is standing on the shoulder of NY 268- just a few feet from the water. |
Two locals assess the situation. |

South of Hancock on NY 97. My son, Josh suggested his mother grab these shots of a mudslide.
NY 17 was closed, so was NY 97, but my wife managed to get out of Hancock, anyway; She was headed down to my daughter’s house to see how she was faring. |
