Buffalo and East of Utica.
Part of the Buffalo meat and my Journey back to Highland.

Buffalo Section
The Western End of the NY 5 Freeway leading to the Buffalo Skyway.
We're heading northbound here.
Tifft Street and Furhmann Boulevard junction.
Furhmann Boulevard parallels NY 5.
The Ohio Street junction
Past the Ohio Street JN, heading north
Furhmann Boulevard comes back for a second go round.
It actually splits into two carriageways with NY 5 in the middle.
Look at the left of the snap, and you can see the gantry for the on-slip for NY 5.
Climbing the grade for the Buffalo Skyway.
the draping is because the bridge is being painted.
At the end of the Skyway, joining IH 190
Utica to Canajoharie
Now a great huge jump in time and space,
We're at the elevated junction with NY 51.
NY 5S is just across the Eire Canal.
Note the “I” is serifed. Prolly to avoid confusion.
Going through the junction.
This is a very tight trumpet,
because of the railway and Canal nearby.
Getting ready to pass under the Thruway near Herkimer(JN 30)
Here's another “Boxed” road name on a guide sign.
The Thruway underpass and West German Road signal.
Past the underpass, you have this short dual carriageway with a wall.
The left lane has been copped for a turn lane.
Pretty common in NY.
Nearly into the Village of Herkimer;
The dual carriageway ends just ahead.
Nice grouping of “Doghouse” signals and an “ONLY” Box.
Now here are two shots of an old bridge east of Herkimer.
There's no sort of markings or anything to say what this is,
and it would appear that it is being left to rot.
An interesting sign I haven't seen before.
this repeats at the half mile, too.
At Little Falls, NY 5 is a dual carriageway
close in bypass of the central district.
Here is a fire brigade signal-a rare two-head style.
NY usually puts up standard signals at firehouses.
More of the same at a standard signal.
This is the Furnace Street junction.
This will be the NY 167 South overpass.
This was what the works advisory was for in the snap above.
Like NY 51, it crosses the Erie Canal and the railway in close proximity.
More of the Little Falls Bypass.
East of Little Falls, this is the NY 169 South junction.
NY 169 drops down a sharp grade from here-
crossing the Eire Canal at a fairly low level.
At the top of the hill just east of NY 169.
4 shots of NY 5 between Little Falls and Saint Johnsville.
The 4 lane section is actually pretty long.
Coming into St. Johnsville,
following a classic Manx Dune Buggy.
I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid.
Downtown St. Johnsville.
Note the Canal Signs.
A louvered traffic light in Downtown Nelliston.
this is the junction with NY 80.
