Boxing Week Blowout Returns. Again!

A few mundane NY and PA snaps on the way to the Roebling Aqueduct in Lackawaxen, PA.

Ulster County 29 bridge over US 209.
Taken in August-on a different trip;
but relevant to current content.
Truss bridge on Ulster County Highway 29A
In Hurley, NY west of US 209. Looking west.
Looking at the Esopus Creek from mid-span.
It’s running pretty high,
but not as high as during the recent flooding.
Looking east on Ulster County 29A at the bridge.
Another Creek(the Rondout), and another bridge-this one from 1930.
This is located on Secret Route 77 (old US 44)
in Kerhonkson, NY. The view is north.
Looking south across the bridge.
The bridge is not in the best shape, really.
This sidewalk has been closed a long time.
The first US 44 sine eastbound.
The arrangement of these sines could imply the road
leads TO the Thruway, US 44 and NY 55, which isn’t the case.
The Thruway blazer should be below the highway markers.
It needs replaced, anyway.
Looking east on US 44-NY 55 at Kerhonkson
This is the modern crossing of the Rondout Creek.
END! US 44. This is an updated and moderne snap.
Compare it to the 2001 Snap.
The signal is new this year,
and the station was rebadged to Valero this year, too.
It’s a fair place to get a sandwich and coffee.
Heading south on US 209.
The billboards are available for you. Just call the number.
Note it’s rendered in an archaic style: 845 GL2 2121.
That’s a Poughkeepsie exchange(452),
the number is for Highway Displays.
Approaching the junction with NY 52 in Ellenville,
Southbound on US 209.
You’ve seen this before;
an old stylee US Federal Interstate Highway Route 209 sine
Located at the Herlings Road junction.
The black paint is nearly gone, now,
leading to the ironical situation of the only reflective part of the sine
being the part that wasn’t supposed to be reflective.
The shield part is down to bare metal.
US Federal Interstate Highway Route 209 near Summitville,
sporting new box-beam guiderails.
They sure look nice when they’re new. That won’t last.
The great hulking truss bridge over the Delaware at Port Jervis, NY.
Or Matamoras, PA, if you like.
Ratty road surface on US 6 and 209 heading southwest out of Matamoras.
This warning about US 209 is repeated before you hit Milford.
NAG SINE! AIEEEEE!
This sucker stalks us from behind a tree at the PA Welcome Center
off j53 on Federal Interstate Superhighway 84
and US Federal Interstate Highway 209 in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, USA,
Continent of North America, Planet Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy.
Heading west to Milford on US 6-US 209;
The signal ahead is for the Interstate 84 east entry/exit.
Toldja we'd see another one of these.
Interstate 84 is to the immediate right.
We’re not awfully fare from the Delaware River, at this point.
A short multi-lane section of US 6-US 209.
This is a long shopping area.
A lot of which was underwater in the 2k6 floods.
This particular junction would have required a boat to negotiate.
West of the shopping area, US 6-US 209 narrow to 3 lanes.
Older maps show this as a 4-lane, but it’s hard to see how.
Perhaps before the IH 84 was put through.
Milford Borough signs. These are on the west side of town on US 6.
I suspect that the keystone is not in it’s original location.
East Stroudsburg is a US 209 destination-
more likely for people coming from Port Jervis.
US 6 eastbound traffic would more likely be headed to Port Jervis
The mileage from this point is inaccurate(33 vs 35 miles).
I think this was originally posted on the east side of town.
US 6 at the Milford Junction.
This is at the top of a long grade that starts/ends at the west side of Milford.
A closeup of the IH 84 blazer in the above snap.
It’s moderately old, and un-neutered at that.
PA is inconsistent with the state name in the shield;
some have it; some don’t.
Approaching the PA 434 junction westbound on US 6.
Now heading north on PA 434 just past the US 6 junction.
More PA 434ness. This could be a county road anywhere, really.
Not terribly impressive as a state highway, is it?
Wrapping this page up with the east END! of PA 590.
Note the old END! plate on the sign.
